We are happy to present the fourth edition of Cripta747 Residency Programme, a process-based residency open to international artists, curators and researchers that provides two fellowships and the opportunity to live and work in Turin for two months from September to November.
The winners of the 2020 edition, appointed among a shortlist of amazing candidates from all over the world, are the Italian artist Caterina De Nicola (1991) and the Dominican musician and filmmaker Kelman Duran (1984).
The selection jury, composed by Caterina Avataneo and Anne Langlois, appreciated the political engagement and the critical approach through which both the artists deal with burning issues of our times without any speculative intention, by means of different practices, expressive languages and intriguing aesthetics. Their projects have the potential to expand beyond the residency period, opening up an interesting series of discussions around timely topics in the current debate.
We can't wait to welcome Caterina and Kelman and start working together and we would like to thanks the artists that applied in the Residency and everyone who made this project possible.

Dear Friends,
we want to update you on our activities and give you official communication of the temporary interruption of the Studio Programme that, every year at this time, has been taking place in CRIPTA747's spaces in Turin.
At the core of our work and of the support we want to give to artist's research are openness, close relationships with artists and an intense contact with our territory and its people, through the cultural and productive realities that have always represented it.
As we currently lack these conditions we will not be able to offer artists the necessary support to best develop their projects and, following in-depth evaluations, we have decided to postpone the Studio Programme to a date that is yet to be decided.
We want to thank all who have participated to the open call and, in particular, those who were selected for this edition: Pietro Bonfanti (IT), Hugo de Almeida Pinho& Sara Castelo Branco (PT), Will Handley (NZ), Kornel Janczy (PL), Donglai Meng (CN), MRZB (IT), Federico Pozuelo (ES), Ian Skirvin (NL) and Alan Stefanato (IT).With them, we will be using these days of protracted waiting to start working together and build the foundations of our collaboration.
We hope everything will soon go back to normal and we cannot wait to see you again.
All our very best,Alexandro Tripodi, Elisa Troiano, Marianna Orlotti, Renato Leotta
Cari Amici,
Cripta747 is delighted to host In the spirit of being with, a group show curated by Lisa Andreani and Sonia D'Alto.
In the spirit of being with is a soft deviation from the present time, a decoy where the future acts backwards and the past can’t keep still in its grave. Linear narration melts into the material production process, something weird, almost carnival-like confirms the idea of progress as a mirage.
On the occasion of the first event of our 2020, we invite you to a listening session made of four performances.
Driven by the various attitudes of the artists involved, "KlammKlang Exports" try to stimulate our deepest feelings, exploring the territories included between dream and reality thanks to the use of different tools and different languages.
Amphibia and CRIPTA747 invite you to the presentation of the book "È amore. o è follia? Cocoricò 1991–1992" by Jacopo Lega - Amphibia. The publication wants to pay tribute to a two years long moment, captured through lights and memories of the same protagonists who have contributed to making the Cocoricò Club a free zone able to explore the most diverse forms of entertainment and the innermost manifestations of being.
The event will host a conversation between Ferruccio Belmonte and Roberto Spallacci, moderated by Riccardo Ramello - Club Futuro; together with an exhibition of the original flyers from Ferruccio Belmonte archive.
"Di notte la musica e le stelle sono l'energia vitale di una civiltà che venera un prezioso diamante, di una città costruita sotto una piramide di cristallo, luogo di meraviglia e di paradisiache sensazioni. Fuori dal tempo come in un sogno.”
We are happy to present - together with SØVN and Studio 23.56 - A voice is just a familiar noise.

Live acts: Giovanni Lami, Andrea Bruera, Francesco Ameglio & Studio 23.56.
Audiovisual installation created by Studio 23.56 and Francesco Ameglio.

SEE YOU THERE!

Meet us over for the Open Studio of the third edition of Cripta747 Residency Programme with the works by Lee Fraser and Hilary Galbreaith.
Wednesday 30th of October from 5pm CRIPTA747, Via Quittengo 41/B, Torino.7pm ---> Performance. Hilary Galbreaith with Pietra Tonale.
Trained as a composer at Dartington College of Arts in UK with Frank Denyer, Lee Fraser went on to study electroacoustic music at MA level with Denis Smalley, at City University London and then at the University of Manchester where he got a Phd in electroacoustic composition. His recent work is characterised by its concern with synthesised sound objects and complex auditory experiences, drawing from his interest in digital synthesis, psychoacoustics and acousmatic theory. In his pieces Fraser explores the idea of liminality, working with physical models of recognisable sounds and stretching characteristic features of those sounds to the limit of recognisability.
Having grown up between Southern California and Virginia, Hilary Galbreaith's childhood and adolescence was marked by the DIY and “health” culture of California, the San Diego punk scene, traditional crafts from the American South, and the trompe-l'œil worlds of Disneyland and Hollywood. She draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources: Youtube tutorials and DIY sites, the “hobby” section of arts and crafts stores, post-punk music, bizarre store window displays, comics, medieval frescos, traditional crafts and costumes, B-movies and horror films, and satirical science fiction. Galbreaith creates playfully dark, comedic fictions that address the 21st century body, the way it lives with the ambivalences and contradictions of everyday technologies such as screens, social networks, and digitalized bureaucracy.

Thanks to this project, Instudio had the chance to experiment out of its usual format, in order to investigate the relationship developed between the artists and the studio during a temporary residency.
The first three videos document the first edition of the CRIPTA747 Studio Programme in 2017, hoping to testify the exchanges, the creative instability and discoveries on the field that come out from the necessity of building a personal work space inside a shared studio plunged in a new city.

A community of calendars of buds and sparrows needs a post-box. The box or equivalent object will be installed in the smallest possible to buy piece of land in Europe and will function as an official address and home of the community. As a call to relate practical and possible meanings, the call to make a post-box is an invitation to create a sculpture.
I invite you--to make a sculpture
Which will be a measure of a language
Before it is used as an organic and medical
Equivalence of truth
I invite you--to build a house
In the smallest piece of land,
Impossible to buy in Europe
No bigger than a post box would need,
Perhaps up to 0,2 - 0,5 m²?
From the perspective of status quo
And critical legal theory
The sculpture in the smallest piece of land
Will be a home and address
Of a community of calendars of buds
And sparrows
P.S.
You are now invited to make a sculpture.
Take a note as a line,
The one which would vertically support
Climbing of the weak-stemmed poem
In the making of a legal
Sculpture
Send your sketch of the post-box to studio@cripta747.it
A community of calendars of buds and sparrows is a working project, presented by Auridas Gajauskas during his participation at Cripta747 studio program. The project is devoted to transformations of the ethical lows and legal systems from the inside of the language, which produces the planetary (one we live in) vision. Life of the community, also simply called as “A community of calendars”, will be concentrated solely on reflections of changes, consequences and impacts of the non-human nature and its activities.
The second Meet & Crit event will take place on April 17th at the CampoBase spaces where two of the participants selected for CRIPTA747's Studio Program, will present their work. During the event, the artist Chris Rocchegiani and the curator Auridas Gajauskas will share their practice with the public.
See You there!
